Pizza Burger

Pizza Burger

This burger was inspired by Liz’s brother-in-law, Din.

In his single days, he’d come home after a night out with the boys and fix an impromptu pizza on an English muffin.

But inevitably, he’d fall asleep on the couch, while the muffin burned to a crisp in the oven.

Din may not be able to cook to save his life, but he knows a good burger when he sees one.

INGREDIENTS

MAKES 4 BURGERS

  • 1 pound ground beef round
  • 1 cup marinara or pizza sauce
  • ¼ cup finely chopped onion
  • cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
  • ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded

INSTRUCTION

  • Gently mix together the beef, ½ cup of the marinara sauce, the onion, garlic, salt, and pepper.
  • Divide the mixture into 8 patties, each just less than ½ inch thick.
  • Sprinkle half of the patties with the mozzarella cheese.
  • Top each with a remaining patty and carefully seal the edges together.
  • Lightly oil the grill or a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the burgers to the desired degree of doneness, at least 4 to 5 minutes per side for medium.
  • It’s okay if some of the cheese oozes out.
