Years earlier than the Cambrian explosion of alcohol-free beverage choices, Detroit-based Casamara Membership began making what they dubbed “leisure sodas.” Their botanically laced drinks provided advanced, not-too-sweet flavors good for once you needed to sip one thing particular, sans alcohol. Their unique lineup even caught our consideration again in early 2019 when the corporate (aka founders Erica Johnson and Jason LaValla) first started increasing past the Nice Lakes area. These years of expertise are evident with their latest launch, the supremely crushable Superclasico nonalcoholic aperitivo.
Much like their different amaro-like botanical sodas, the Superclasico is constituted of complete components, eschewing any “pure flavors” or various sweeteners. Italian chinotto (small, bitter oranges) and juniper create a bitter spine. Crimson currant juice gives tart flavors and a few tannic construction, whereas kola nut, vanilla, allspice, and clove construct complexity. And the right quantity of demerara cane sugar and lemon juice retains all the pieces balanced. Fizzy, bittersweet, and gently spiced, the Superclasico is now a go-to anytime I’m looking for a little bit leisure. $60/12-pack, casamaraclub.com
