Guacamole Burger with Spicy Chili Con Queso

Did you know that an avocado is actually a one-seeded berry? This south-of-the-border burger mixes the guacamole into the hamburger meat for extra-rich butteriness. If you like, leave in half the jalapeño seeds for tongue-tingling heat.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 pound ground beef round
  • 1 small red onion, finely diced
  • 1 cup loosely packed fresh cilantro leaves, coarsely chopped
  • tablespoons soy sauce
  • fresh jalapeño chile pepper, seeded and finely diced
  • large egg, beaten
  • small, ripe avocado, peeled, pitted, and cut into ½-inch dice

INSTRUCTION

  • Mix all the ingredients except the avocado together in a large mixing bowl until well combined.
  • Gently fold in the avocado, then form the mixture into 4 patties, each about ½ inch thick.
  • Lightly oil the grill or a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the burgers to the desired degree of doneness, 2 to 4 minutes per side for medium rare.
