  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 1/4 cup teriyaki sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Pineapple Salsa:

  • 1 cup diced pineapple (fresh or canned)

For Assembling:

  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Sliced tomato
  • Sliced red onion
  • Swiss cheese slices (optional)
  • Teriyaki sauce (for drizzling)

Instructions:

    Prepare the Hamburger Patties:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped pineapple, breadcrumbs, chopped red onion, teriyaki sauce, salt, and pepper.
  2. Mix the ingredients until they are well combined.
  3. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into burger patties.

    Prepare the Pineapple Salsa:

  1. In a separate bowl, combine the diced pineapple, diced red bell pepper, diced red onion, chopped cilantro, lime juice, salt, and pepper.
  2. Mix well, and taste to adjust the seasoning. Refrigerate the salsa until it’s time to assemble the burgers.

    Cook the Hamburger Patties:

  1. Preheat your grill or a skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. If using a grill, lightly oil the grates to prevent sticking.
  3. Grill the burger patties for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare to medium doneness.
  4. If you’d like to add Swiss cheese, place a slice on each patty during the last minute of cooking and cover the grill to melt the cheese.

    Assemble the Hawaiian Hamburger Luau:

  1. While the patties are cooking, lightly toast the hamburger buns on the grill or in a toaster.
  2. Spread a layer of lettuce leaves on the bottom half of each bun.
  3. Place a cooked burger patty (with or without cheese) on the lettuce.
  4. Drizzle a little teriyaki sauce over the patty.
  5. Add a slice of tomato and sliced red onion.
  6. Top with a generous scoop of the pineapple salsa.
  7. Place the other half of the bun on top.
